Keeping Long Distance Relationships Alive

Long distance relationships are no longer unusual in today’s society. In fact, they’re almost the norm! Internet dating, career relocation and higher education needs have created a worldwide singles scene for today’s savvy single. These days, it’s possible your girlfriend or boyfriend lives across the country - or even across the world!

Unfortunately, maintaining a long distance relationship isn’t always easy. The lack of private time together - coupled with different environments and experiences - can stress even the most loving of relationships. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to keep the spark alive when your lover is miles away.

Use technology! E-mail, text messages and instant messaging are simple ways to “touch base” regularly without the time (and long distance bill!) of a phone call. A quick note to tell your lover that you’re thinking of him/her can be enough to keep the fires burning.

Go old-fashioned! Sure, technology is easy and convenient. But there’s nothing like an old-fashioned letter to really touch the heart of the one you love. Since you have plenty of time to think about the words you want to say, your letter should be both heartfelt and meaningful. Use elegant stationary to make it even more special.

Make A Long Distance Relationship Work

Any relationship should be special and meaningful for both the partners, whether it is long-distance or not. If there is love and trust between two individuals, it does not make a difference whether they are living together or separated from each other.

But it might be overwhelming at times when partners are faced with too many challenges and setbacks and cannot handle them alone, just because they are not spending their daily lives together. Some tips could be helpful for people who are going through tough separation periods.

Long distance relationships can actually enhance maturity, bonding and growth. You learn to be honest to each other and show respect and trust for each other. Since there is no day-to-day interaction with each other, each one ’s thoughts are not communicated to each other for which there is no discussion and reflection.

The most important thing about long-distance relationships is to listen to each other in a caring manner. You must have implicit trust in your partner, and this can only be facilitated if there is total honesty in the partnership.

How We Met

Written by PLS on July 14th, 2008

Though I wasn’t looking for anyone new,
One day I got a message from you.
Charming, sensitive and so debonair,
I strongly resisted it go anywhere.

But letters and stories captured my heart,
Filled me with passion almost from the start.
Love on the Internet, how could it be?
These things just don’t happen to people like me.

But doves and butterflies flew into our lives,
Carrying messages we could not deny.
Each person has meaning and love to express,
And we could deny our hearts nothing less.

It’s a beautiful love that has grown between us,
Something beyond any words we discuss.
Much deeper than LOL, cyber kisses and such,
Far down to our souls, beyond human touch.

My love’s not confined by what it can see,
I feel you, I taste you, I experience your dream.
Close my eyes, and I envision what in my heart I can hear,
“Love knows no boundaries, no distance, no fear.”

It’s the soul that captures God’s love in a way
That eternally melts hearts together to stay.
Fused and sealed forever as one,
Love has its way and new life is begun.

When We Talk

When we talk,
A warm feeling stirs inside.
I don’t know what to call it
But it feels so good.
If only I could touch you,
Like your voice touches me.
I feel like I’ve known you,
And you’ve known me.
I can’t wait ‘till we are together,
So we both can see.
I think of you often.
But can touch you only in my dreams.
Close your eyes.
Feel the warmth of my hand as

I softly touch your face.
Feel the heat of my breath,
As I rest my head on your chest.
If only it were real
And you were there when I awoke.
Do you feel the heat?
I really need to know.
Somehow, from so far away
I think you’ve touched my soul

Does She Know?

Does she know how the world is different since we met?
Can she see this shiny new creation that appeared with her?

Does she know that I think of her continuously?
That sometimes I can’t sleep for fear of missing her.

Does she feel my heart beat for her and her alone?
Sometimes it does so loudly I think she could hear it regardless of the distance.

Does she trust the words I tell her?
They are only words but they are all I have to give to her.

Can she trust her heart although we have never met?
My heart has been hers for as long as I can remember.

Can she see that I will never mislead her?
That I will give every minute of my life to make her happy.

Does she know that I love her?

The Perfect Guy

As always, we are looking and hoping for the perfect man. Even online, we are still keeping hope alive.

The Perfect Man…will not call you at the house early in the morning, because he knows you are always running late. But when you get to work and turn your computer on, the first message is from the perfect man: “Good morning Sweetie. I will have you in my thoughts today.”

You’re having a rough day, but thank God it is time to go to lunch! A chance to re-group…when you return to work, there is a bouquet of 18 roses. Each one is a different vibrant color that energized the remainder of your day. Only the perfect man could sense you needed this!

The day is over; you’re rushing around to get an additional 8 hours of unpaid work done in 4 hours! Single motherhood…if it wasn’t for the unconditional love you have for your children…? It would be slavery! The grocery store…the mailbox… dinner… homework… housework…laundry…lay out the school clothes…you take a break and sort through the mail. An uncontrollable smile spreads across your face…there’s a greeting card from your perfect man…that simply says: I’m Thinking Of You! There is also a hand painted, red satin bookmark that says: “Knowing You Has Bookmarked A Place In My Heart.” It was all you needed to finish your long, tiring day.

It’s almost over…on your way to take a long relaxing bath, you noticed there is a voice message on your phone. Wearily, you retrieve the message…anticipating an issue you really aren’t in the mood to deal with. The message is from the perfect man. His message? “I know you’ve had a long rough day…once you are settled in for the night, give me a call…I want to be the last voice you hear before you go to sleep…then I will meet you in your dreams…”

I Never Dreamed

Written by PLS on July 2nd, 2008

I never dreamed that such a man existed,
Much less that he would feel the same for me.
And so this towering wave I’ve not resisted,
Allowing it to sweep me out to sea.
How strange to meet as words flashed on a screen!
Soul-to-soul: no sight or sound or touch.
How strange on such a phantom friend to lean
When the pain of breaking up became too much.
Yet stranger still when love and even passion
Borne by words alone swept up my shore:
Real love, with all the power to refashion
Life in its unending urge for more.
The Web has given us this special grace:
That love might break the bonds of time and space.

Every Night

Every night, when I lay me down to sleep,
I want to reach over, to feel your lips so sweet.
Although I know I cannot be there,
You will always keep me from having any fear.

The sheets are very cold;
I feel like I’m in a huge hole.
What if we never meet?
Would my life be any better yet?

I long for the day we lock eyes;
I want you to be surprised.
As much as you may imagine what I’ll be,
I can only be me.

So every night, when I lay me down to sleep,
You are in my mind with me.
And right before I fall asleep,
I wish upon that star for you to be with me.

Full Heart, Empty Arms

Written by PLS on June 27th, 2008

Thoughts of you illuminate my spirit;
Never a flicker of flame, but with
Arching bolts which strike with a force
That disturbs my equilibrium.

My mind races as waves of passion flush over
My pale skin, causing me to gaze upon visions
Of impossible romantic possibilities.

Pathetic is this woman who anticipates the
True rhythm of love, with a man she will never hold.

My imagined discourse of thoughts leave me suffering,
As my lips quiver with the words I shall never speak
to his: “I have loved you more than anybody in this world.”

Thinking Of You

Written by PLS on June 25th, 2008

Thinking of you today what great joy you bring,

You’re so beautiful like a fresh Tulip in spring.

Oh What warmth you bring my heart,

Miss you so much when we are apart.

I think of you every night and day,

Would like to be with you now if there was a way!

Oh how my heart aches when I cannot see you,

Tears roll down my cheeks like morning dew.

Winter has passed and spring has arrived,

Two months of your LOVE have I been deprived.

Missing your presence in every way,

I LOVE YOU so much what more can I say.

Though these days our eyes do not meet,

Thinking of you still makes my heart beat.

Far you may be like a lost fallen feather,

But close are our heats will always be together.

Times are hard now but soon it will pass,

Then I will be able to see you again at last.

Everything then will be as smooth as butter,

You and I will have our “Happily ever after!”
